Randy Syracuse Takes Helm for Rosemont Volleyball Program

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Rosemont Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that Randy M. Syracuse has accepted the position as Head Coach of the Rosemont Volleyball program.

Syracuse comes to Rosemont boasting more than 30 years of experience coaching and playing volleyball. Syracuse has coached internationally, steering a French National Division 3 men’s team to a Top Four finish as a head coach and as an Assistant Coach, helped to guide a Swedish women’s team to the Elite Series National Vice Championship.

Syracuse also played in Europe, competing on a National Division 1AA Championship team in France and winning the Division 2 National Championship in Sweden. Stateside, Syracuse made it to the NCAA Division I Final Four as a player, was a six-time gold medalist and five-time silver medalist at the NYS Empire State Games and played for the USVBA Nationals Club Championships as the MVP of the championship team.

Between 2007-2010 Syracuse was an Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. During his stay at Canisius the team compiled an overall record of 28-17 (22-14 conference). In 2008 the team placed third in the conference and was undefeated at home in conference play. Since 2003 Syracuse has worked for the Second Chance Volleyball Camps in Buffalo, NY. Going back to 1981, Syracuse has held many different volleyball coaching jobs, working at Niagara University, and the University of Buffalo on the collegiate level. He also coached on the high school level in the 1990’s.

Syracuse is eager to begin working with his new squad. “I want to get to know the players who helped improve the team over the last couple of seasons, and to meet the new players who will be joining the team this season.” He admits the job will be challenging as he will need to evaluate his players and get them to play as a team in a very limited timeframe. “I will have to work quickly to best merge the more experienced players with the new players. The challenge will be in melding the groups of more and less experienced players together into a cohesive group.” Syracuse stated.

Coach Syracuse has faced similar challenges earlier in his career, but feels that his coaching philosophy will continue to improve the Rosemont program, stating, “I have worked with players at beginner through national levels. I have worked with less-experienced players to teach them skills, and I have worked with more-experienced players to help them achieve a higher level of accomplishment.” Overall, Syracuse looks forward to “the opportunity and the challenge” of taking the reins of Rosemont’s volleyball program. “I want to enhance the team’s chances to continue to improve.”

Syracuse resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife Cynthia, and his daughter Abby.
