ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN MLK DAY OF SERVICE

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – On Monday, January 18^th, three member of the Rosemont College Athletics Department, Director of Athletics Lynn Rothenhoefer, Dani Maye Assistant Director of Athletics and Head Athletic Trainer Suzanne Donaghue along with  several student-athletes participated in the Rosemont College Campus Ministry Martin Luther King (MLK) Day of Service. 

The MLK Day of Service is a yearly tradition at Rosemont College that offers the entire campus an opportunity to live out the missions of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Cornelia Connelly, founder of the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus. Students, staff, faculty, and friends spent the day serving at sites in the local community including St. Ignatius School in West Philadelphia, Philabundance in North Philadelphia and Rosemont College.

Rothenhoefer, Maye and Donaghue along with men’s basketball student-athletes Greg Gardner and Harrison Carsillo, women’s basketball’s Adriann Demchenko and Tanisha Lockerman and softball’s Marissa Meyers spent the day at St. Ignatius where they cleaned up trash and leaves from the streets surrounding the school. 

“We raked and shoveled up garbage and leaves filling numerous bags,” said Maye.  “We definitely used our muscles, but in the end it was well worth it. The yard and the alley looked significantly better. We even talked about coming back to plant flowers.”

“We only volunteered for about 3 hours,” added Donague. “There were about 20 of us at this one site and we accomplished so much. It really made me think how much we could achieve if we were to all volunteer on a more regular basis.”

Maye agreed adding, “I enjoyed doing something with my colleagues and other members of the Rosemont community outside of the work place. It is always rewarding when you donate your time to help others, and I look forward to other opportunities in the future!”
